William T. Shehan IV - Sensei William Seiyo Shehan started his journey on the Path when a friend gave him a copy of Go Rin No Sho by Miyamoto Musashi. That was now 37 years ago. Since then Sensei Seiyo has studied in Korea, Japan, Mexico and the U.S. Sensei has studied Kendo, Taekwondo, Kyudo, Ving Tsun, Aikido and Iaido as well as hand to hand training while in the Army. While his goal was never to attain any belts he holds a Nidan from GM Master Briggs in Jeet Kun Do, and Shodan in Kendo and Shurikenjutsu. He has trained under several Grand Masters including GM Professor Remy Presas (founder of Modern Arnis), and GM Boddy Taboda (Balintawak). Sensei Seiyo will be opening a Meifu Shinkage Ryû, shurikenjutsu keikokai, in 2016 with the blessing of Shihan Ôtsuka, Sôke of Meifu Shinkage Ryû in Chiba Japan.
Part of Sensei Seiyo’s Shugyosha path included studying to become a Jodo Shinshu minister, practicing Shodo and writing Haiku. He is currently a lay-Buddhist minister for the Midwest Buddhist Temple and the lay-Buddhist minister for the Jesse Brown VA Hospital. He feels that the path of a warrior is multifaceted and one should strive to improve daily to the benefit of others too. His personal motto is “Do what you can, when you can, with what’s at hand.” -
